Obituary of John McGorray

John Joseph McGorray, born in Buffalo, New York on September 7, 1948, passed away, in his home surrounded by love, on November 15, 2022.

John was the youngest of seven children born to John and Doris McGorray. He was raised in Buffalo where he formed many lifelong friendships He attended the University of Buffalo, and Canisius College where he completed his Degree in Library Science. In 1978, he left the cold and snowy winters of Buffalo for sunny Arizona when he accepted a job with the University of Arizona where he also completed a Masters Degree in Library Science. Soon after, he began his career as a Technical Research Librarian at

Intel Corporation in Chandler where he met his love, Susan. John and Susan married on May 27, 1994. Along with this marriage John was welcomed into a ready-made family of three children. Never referring to them as step children, John lovingly embraced them as his son and daughters, Todd (Laura), Traci (Terry), and Rachel (Kirk). They in turn, welcomed John into their lives with love, respect and caring for the love and light he brought to their lives. The seven grandchildren that followed were the joy of his life. His greatest pleasure was to watch them grow and achieve their many accomplishments. He was a very loving and loved "Gramp Gramps". Family meant everything to John. The years were filled with countless family gatherings, pool parties, cookouts, sleepovers, school programs and sports events and just spending time with his loved ones.

He retired from Intel in 2005. John and Susan then moved to Trilogy in Gilbert where many great friendships were formed within the community. John loved playing golf, many card games, neighborhood parties, great conversations and joint travel ventures. He liked to say "This is what retirement is all about".

John was an avid reader and never stopped his lifelong pursuit of learning. He was a great sports fan who always cheered on his Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, and St Louis Cardinals.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Kaye, Sue, and Jeannie, and his brother Dick (Margie). He is survived by his loving wife, children and grandchildren, his sister Pat, brother Tom (Carolyn) and many nieces and nephews.

John was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. John's love and kindness will make him forever missed.
