John Waldron

Obituary of John David Waldron

John David Waldron, 86, of Chandler, AZ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Evergreen Assisted Living. Born on December 3, 1937, in Brooklyn, New York, he was the youngest of six brothers to Martha and Kenneth Waldron. John graduated from Manhattan High School of Aviation Trades (SAT) in June 1955.

John launched his career at Con Edison in 1958, and shortly thereafter, he married his beloved wife, Barbara Singer, on January 24, 1959. As he embarked on his professional journey, John also devoted himself to advancing his education at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Despite the challenges of managing both work and family life, which included caring for two toddlers, he diligently completed his Associate of Applied Sciences in Electrical Technology with honors in 1963. During this period, John skillfully managed the demands of his expanding career alongside his increasing family responsibilities. In addition, he served for a short period of time in the Army Reserves.

In October of 1964, John and Barbara moved to Selden, NY, on Long Island, where they raised their five children: Debra, John, Karen, Barbara, and Cheryl. Initially, John commuted daily into New York City, but later he opted for the Long Island Railroad for his commute. He commuted long hours every day so that his children could have better educational opportunities.

Over his 38-year career as an engineer in the electrical transmission system, John played a vital role in supplying power to New York City and the surrounding areas. He retired in 1996 and moved to North Haverhill, NH, before moving to Ocala, FL, attracted by the warmer weather. John was a devoted husband and father who cherished his time traveling, particularly enjoying trips to Branson, Pigeon Forge, and on Caribbean cruises.

John also had a deep passion for war history, often watching his favorite war movies repeatedly and delving into war novels. This interest enriched his knowledge and provided a cherished hobby throughout his life. Following Barbara’s passing on May 23, 2021, John relocated to Gilbert, AZ, to be nearer to his daughters.

He leaves behind his children, Debra (Mesa, AZ), John and his wife Debbie (Ephrata, PA), Karen (Maricopa, AZ), Barbara and her husband Scott (Gilbert, AZ), and Cheryl and her husband Dan (Sammamish, WA). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Alicia, Nicholas, Kaitlyn, Samantha, Nicole, and Danielle.
